Week 13 - Back To School

Updated: Jun 6, 2022

During the semester break, we met with one of our incredible mentors Hezi. We were really looking forward to having this meeting because we know that with Hezi’s help, the sky is the limit. During the session, we “sharpened” the problem: "the loneliness woman experiences every day because of the people surrounding them". (Mostly the feeling nobody really understands them).

In order to do so, we spoke to 8 different women all of them have more than one experience of pregnancy. Some of them experienced postpartum depression or a long period of baby blues.

scenario & Preliminary questions

Our leading questions and improved scenario, helped us interview our end-users much better.

we created a scenario that made the users feel more open and calm and as a result, answered in a way in which we can understand their needs properly. Our leading question for the interview was - "You gave birth just a few days/weeks ago, This is your first time giving birth and you feel very frustrated, lonely, and helpless. You are looking for a solution that gives you support, advice, and guidance from women with professional experience who have also been in your shoes a while ago but still know what you're going through and remember the difficult situations and thoughts that accompany the first period after childbirth".

1. If you could choose to talk to women volunteers, would you choose to have a chat with them on WhatsApp / Facebook or specifically an app for postpartum women?

2. why exactly would you choose this?

3. what motivates you to choose it?

4. what exactly is your opinion about the concerns in each of the options?

5. Whom would you like to be on the other side?

6. what knowledge would you like to have?

7. what would you like to know about her?

8. what would you like her to know about you?

9. would you identify with your real name in front of her or maintain anonymity?

10. if you chose anonymity would it allow you to share more?

A few quotes from the interview:

  • "Facebook is too public and there is no feeling of openness, WhatsApp is very personal and it is not possible to create a variety of options. I think a specific app for postpartum can be very helpful"

(conversation with L - mother of 3 children)

  • "I would especially like support, I would like the volunteers to be sensitive and know how to calm me down, she doesn't need a lot of knowledge but to be sensitive and mature"

(conversation with A - mother of 4 children and 5 grandsons)

  • "A specific app for postpartum feels more discreet to me than Facebook and I don't have to be connected when everyone can see me as a member of a group or something like that".

(conversation with H - mother of 2 children)

Summary of key points:

  • The women in the interviews reported that they prefer a specific app over Facebook or WhatsApp groups.

  • Continuity: Someone who will accompany you in the postpartum period, basically creating a process together.

  • Volunteers who have been trained are a significant added value and the idea of having experienced mothers on their side.

  • it is especially important for the volunteers to be humane and sensitive.

  • It would be nice to add a sentence to any volunteer she can write something like "I'm here for you" or "I was there too, feel free to come and talk"

  • Added value proposition - add content at the blog level, podcasts, videos with tutorials for women after childbirth. For example, how to put to sleep a Baby or how to breastfeed properly.

  • Most of the women reported that it did not matter to them about the anonymity of the app - they were willing to give personal details.

  • Monitoring - suggesting and considering referring them to a qualified person, "because sometimes you are unaware of what you're going through".

  • SOS chat that is constantly active 24/7.

  • "Knowing that you are not alone" - it is important for those women to know someone is on the other side and hears you".
